About Your Baker

Hello, I’m Jalenah — a mother, a registered nurse, and a future nurse-midwife with a heart for serving women and families in my community. But long before this became a business, baking started in my kitchen as something personal.

Fourteen years ago, for my oldest daughter’s first birthday, I baked cupcakes from a box and added a little color to make them my own. That simple act turned into a tradition. Since then, I’ve baked my children’s birthday cakes and cupcakes completely from scratch — every year, for every celebration. Somewhere between motherhood, nursing shifts, and early-morning studying, I realized that baking had become one of the ways I show love.

About a year ago, during this busy season of school and clinical hours, I decided to turn something I’d been doing for over a decade into something that could also support my family.

I started Not So Bad Sweets because I wanted desserts that were both delicious and mindful. As someone who loves sweets but also cares about health, I began experimenting with recipes that use better-for-you ingredients like whole wheat flour, flaxseed, and less sugar. The result? Treats that are still sweet, still indulgent, just… not so bad.

As a mom, I care deeply about what I serve. I believe desserts can be joyful without being over-the-top, indulgent without being excessive, and always made with intention. One day, I’ll be serving families as a midwife. Right now, I serve them one batch of treats at a time. I’m so glad you’re here. I hope you find something sweet to share.

Life’s too short to skip dessert.
